Saturdays are always busy. If I'm not conducting or playing in a concert there'll almost always be one or more weddings at Farm Street Church (apparently the busiest church in London for "specials"). But 14 July was supposed to be an exception - the first Saturday off since January. What does one do? Shopping? Country walk? Watch sport? Still contemplating the options, my phone pings, along with - I expect - 100 or so others around the South East. "Can I get to Hertfordshire in time to play Brahms Requiem?" "Why? There's no organ part in Brahms requiem!" "No, it's the premiere of a brand new version for chamber ensemble and piano".
It's fantastic, energising and terrifying in equal measure. I know the work extremely well, of course, but I know not a single bar of this particular version. Delighted to be able to help out, and the very skillful arrangement (by Iain Farrington) deserves to be heard again.
