Last night we had the first concert of a new venture. I regularly conduct three chamber choirs, we attract some fine singers, and their performances seem to go down well with audiences. Recently two of those chamber choirs came together (for Bruckner's monumental mass in E-minor). And a mighty fine chorus that made: flexible like a chamber choir, but with reserves of power like a chorus.
So we got thinking - if you were to choose three or four singers from each choir, and mix them with a few other fine singers who know me well - quite how good would the results be?
Pretty splendid, if last night was anything to go by. A great deal of musicianship and vocal quality was in evidence, and a very good audience clapped long and loud. And even though many of these singers had travelled very many miles to be there, they all wanted to do more. So we shall!
